As part of Portland Art Week, celebrating the intersection of art and sport, the Adams and Ollman gallery launched its group exhibition Tenez on July 9. More than 30 galleries and shops participated in the programming, which examined “how athletics and culture shape identity, community, and innovation.” The masterful show at Adams and Ollman takes its name—Tenez—from the French imperative for “take this” (also the “etymological root for tennis itself”) and looks at the tennis court and match dynamics, as well as the formal gestures and psychology of the game itself.

Some highlights in the exhibition include a “dreamlike” painting by Katherine Bradford (Rose Courts, 2026); 42 editions of Takeshi Konomi’s seminal manga The Prince of Tennis; a screening of Robert Rauschenberg’s Open Score (1966); a sculptural mobile made of discarded materials by Paul Lee (Rally, 2026); ceramic pieces by Jeffry Mitchell (Alligator/Crocodile, Tennis White, 2026); and an epic papier-mâché piece by Bernie Kaminski (Tennis Bag with Racquet and Balls, 2026).
